Chosen Pieces

Topic; Failing Exams. For the final Photograph, I made some changes using Photoshop. I decided to leave this Photograph in colour. Some of the Illustrations were getting lost in within the Photograph, therefore I decided to use the fill tool to fill in the Illustrations that were getting lost. I tried with the black and white filter, however the filled in areas came across as too bold and forthright, therefore I changed it back to the original colour changing the brightness and contrast, making sure the illustrations are not drowned out. The boldness of the Illustrations emphasise the message trying to get across. For example the filled in 'Failed' stamp stands out, making the viewer notice this which helps them understand the basis of the story. I took all 3 of my Photographers into consideration when producing this piece. Heine in the technique and style of the Photograph and Illustration, Thronqvist in the style of Illustration and random placing within the composition, and lastly Georges in the style of the Illustration.

Topic; Disconnection from my family. For this Final Photograph I changed the brightness and contrast so that the Illustration and the Photograph compliment eachother. I wanted the Illustration to be a strong component to this piece as it is mainly Illustration based. The photograph of my mother is in colour to represent the oblivious emotion she had to my emotions and to what I was going through. This is emphasised by the Illustration over the top of her with the fake smile and the headphones as if she has blocked everything out and that I couldn't reach out to her, as if the headphones are acting as the barrier between us. The main influence with this piece was Geraldine Georges in the Illustration with the complexity of the words mingled together creating a busy and detailed effect to it compared to the simplicity of the Photograph.

Topic; Body Image. For this final Photograph, I used Photoshop to make the effect more black and white and edited the contrast and brightness, so that the contrast was high and the brightness was just enough to compliment the contrast and the subject in the Photograph. The Illustration is not as forward than the other pieces, and the Photograph takes more of the front seat as part of the composition. The Photograph of me shows most of the emotion within my face therefore the Illustration is more to compliment and emphasise the emotion portrayed in my face already.

Topic; Issues with my weight. As a final piece, I made some changes using Photoshop. Same as a previous piece, I filled in some of the Illustrations using the 'fill' tool so that the Illustrations look more realistic in intertwining with the photograph. Not using this on every Illustration gives this piece more texture and makes this more of a varied piece. The Photograph being simple, like Geraldine Georges and the Illustration looks busy and detailed, also like Georges work.
Topic; Overthinking. I haven't made any additional changes for this to be a final piece This piece is very simple yet expresses so much as to my thoughts. This then becomes a piece that can only be done in that moment and needs no more amending to it as just the simplicity of the flicking of the ink can express and explain so much alongside the Photograph.

Topic; Self harm. Lastly, this piece I chose from the collection of different pieces I completed for this topic. I specifically chose this one as the Illustration around the Photograph was bigger and did not overpower the Photograph as it is placed behind it. This is similar to Georges work as her Illustrations are both around and on top of the Photograph, therefore I decided to use the piece with the supposed self harm cuts. The red, representing the blood adds colour and texture to the composition, emphasising the emotion.

As part of my final piece I have chosen to pick 2 A2 sized Photographs. One from the past, of me in my 'fat' stage, where the problems would have started, and another of me now, looking really confident yet I will ruin the photograph and add the pieces above over the top. Out of the collection of Photographs I collected for the past, I decided on using this one as, the subject (me) is central in the composition and the angle is coming from slightly below eye level, which is a naturally an unattractive angle which doesn't do me any favours. The aim of this is for me to look happy with how I looked back then and that I wasn't bothered about my weight. The way it will be presented, it will be clean and in a nice big frame as if I take pride of place in a home as I was much happier to be around then.

Out of the Photoshoot for the present Photograph, I decided to use this one as the aim was to look carefree and careless as if I am the most confident person with the way I look now. This is to be proven false when I intend to splatter paint over the Photograph once printed in A2 and with the extra pieces added around it to express my inner thoughts of how the certain problems and issues have damaged the way I think about myself now.
